I spent hours just floating in the Blue Lagoon, feeling like I was in the most beautiful natural swimming pool on earth.

If you’re seeking a thrill, this is the place to find it. Signing up for tandem paragliding off Babadag Mountain was the most terrifying and rewarding spontaneous decision of my life. Launching off the side of that massive peak, floating silently high above the landscape, and watching the lagoon get smaller and smaller below you... it truly is one of the essential things to do in Fethiye. The view is unparalleled, a perfect memory captured forever.

🚶‍♀️ A Walk Through Time: Tombs, Markets, and Ghost Towns

Fethiye does history unlike anywhere else. Right in the heart of the city, carved into the sheer rock face, stand the incredible Lycian rock tombs, especially the Tomb of Amyntas. It’s astonishing to think these structures are thousands of years old. I climbed up there late one afternoon, and watching the sunset cast a warm glow over the entire harbor from that vantage point was spectacular.

But my favorite cultural experience was exploring the silent streets of Kayaköy. This abandoned village, once bustling with Greek inhabitants, is now a beautiful, haunting monument to history. The stone houses and churches stand empty on the hillside, and walking through them is a deeply moving and atmospheric experience.

Don't forget the sensory overload of the Paspatur (Old Town). I loved getting lost in the narrow, winding alleys, haggling for Turkish lamps, and finding the best spot for some strong Turkish coffee.

• Saklıkent Gorge: If you like adventure, this is a must. We drove out to Saklıkent, a deep canyon where you wade through icy-cold mountain runoff between towering walls of rock. It’s an invigorating, slightly hilarious experience—prepare to get soaked and hire some waterproof shoes!
• The Dalyan Delta: A longer drive, but worth it for the sheer variety of sights. We took a riverboat up the Dalyan Delta, passing the magnificent Lycian tombs carved into the cliffs before ending up at Iztuzu Beach (Turtle Beach), a protected nesting area. We even stopped for a mud bath along the way, which was surprisingly fun!
